The Individual Athletes Role in Sports Achievement:
Success in sports, as measured by competitive performance, is dependent upon a number of significant mental and physical components. Somatotype, motor skills, age, nutritional status, physiology, psychology, training level, genetic endowment, and injury risk are the major independent variables influencing performance.

Individual athletes play a major role in their success and achievement through behaviors and attitudes as well as physical talents.

Somatotypes
Somatotyping looks at how fat, muscular and linear the body is, in that order. Everyone's body shape can be described by these types. For instance, Endomorphs may be suited to activities like wrestling and shot-putting. Mesomorphs may gravitate towards activities like decathlon, gymnastics and swimming. Ectomorphs might excel in sports such as long distance running and high jumping.
